MauTravel's guided mangrove kayaking experience takes you through sheltered channels on a sit-on-top kayak, accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide who will point out the birds, fish and marine life that inhabit these fragile ecosystems. The pace is entirely gentle — this is not an adrenaline sport but a peaceful, immersive encounter with nature.
No prior kayaking experience is needed. The routes are calm and sheltered, suitable for families, couples and solo travellers of all fitness levels. A short paddling lesson is given before you set off, and the guide accompanies the group throughout to ensure everyone is comfortable and enjoying the experience at their own pace.

Not at all. Our mangrove routes follow calm, sheltered channels that are ideal for first-time paddlers. Your guide will give a short technique lesson before you set off and will paddle alongside you throughout the experience.
Yes — mangrove kayaking is one of our most family-friendly experiences. Children aged 6 and above can paddle in tandem kayaks with a parent. Life jackets are provided in all sizes. Please let us know children's ages when booking so we can prepare the right equipment.
Wear light, comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting slightly wet. A hat, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen are strongly recommended. Secure footwear (water shoes or trainers) is preferred over sandals or flip-flops.
Mauritius's mangrove channels are home to a variety of bird species including herons, kingfishers and egrets, as well as small fish, crabs and other marine life visible in the shallow clear water. Sightings vary by season and time of day — early morning paddles tend to be particularly rewarding for wildlife.
Early morning is ideal — the water is calmest, the light is beautiful, and wildlife activity is at its peak. Afternoon tours are also available and offer a different, equally enjoyable experience. We will confirm the best departure time for your group when booking.
