About the Activity
What to Expect
Mauritius is far more than beaches — its volcanic interior is laced with dramatic mountain trails, dense forests, and viewpoints that reward the effort with unforgettable panoramas of turquoise lagoons and rolling sugarcane fields. MauTravel partners with expert local guides who know every trail intimately.
Our hiking programme covers the full range of Mauritius's peaks and trails: the iconic UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant, the challenging rock scramble of Pieter Both, the accessible ridgeline of Le Pouce above Port Louis, and lesser-known gems like Piton Savanne, Tourelle du Tamarin and Montagne Cocotte. Each hike is tailored to your group's fitness level and interests.
All hikes are led by certified, experienced guides who provide full equipment guidance, safety briefings, and fascinating insights into the island's geology, flora and fauna. Whether you're a first-time hiker or a seasoned trail runner, we have a route that will challenge and inspire you.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Not at all. We offer routes graded from beginner-friendly (Le Pouce, Signal Mountain) to challenging technical ascents (Pieter Both, Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire). Tell us your fitness level when booking and we'll match you to the perfect trail.
We recommend lightweight, breathable clothing, sturdy closed-toe shoes or hiking boots, a hat, sunscreen, and a small daypack. We provide water but suggest bringing extra snacks. A full kit list is sent upon booking confirmation.
The lower section of Le Morne Brabant is accessible to reasonably fit beginners. The upper section involves some scrambling and is recommended for those comfortable with heights and uneven terrain. Your guide will advise on the day based on conditions and your group's ability.
The cooler, drier months of May to November are ideal for hiking. Trails can be slippery during the wet season (December to April) and some routes may be temporarily closed after heavy rain. We monitor conditions daily and will advise if a route needs to be adjusted.
Full-day hikes to major peaks such as Pieter Both or Le Morne Brabant require a good level of fitness and comfortable walking for 5–7 hours. If you are unsure, start with a half-day hike to assess your stamina, or contact us to discuss your fitness level before booking.
