What to Expect
Mauritius is one of very few places in the world where you can swim with wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Tamarin Bay on the west coast is home to resident pods of spinner dolphins, who gather in the bay during the early morning hours before heading out to sea.
MauTravel's dolphin encounter is an ethical, respectful wildlife experience. We work exclusively with operators who follow strict guidelines to ensure minimal disturbance to the dolphins. Guests enter the water quietly and allow the dolphins to approach naturally — there is no chasing, no touching, and no captivity.
The experience typically begins at dawn, when the dolphins are most active near shore. You'll travel by boat to find the pod, then gently slip into the water to observe and swim alongside them. It's a moment of pure magic that travellers describe as a life highlight.

Frequently Asked Questions
While dolphins are resident in Tamarin Bay and sightings are very frequent, we cannot guarantee encounters as these are wild animals. In the rare event of no dolphin sighting, we'll discuss options including a partial refund or alternative activity.
Non-swimmers can join the boat trip and observe from above the water, but will not be able to swim with the dolphins. Life jackets are provided for all guests on board.
Yes, children aged 5 and above can participate. The experience is gentle and suitable for families. Children must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
The tour typically departs at sunrise (around 6:00–7:00am) when dolphins are most active near shore. Exact departure times will be confirmed when you book.
The dolphins are completely wild and free. We work only with ethical operators who respect the dolphins' natural behaviour. There is no feeding, no touching, and no captivity involved.
